Mandala Yarn Quick and Easy Crochet Blanket Patterns

Do you have a favorite blanket you've made? I feel as if it's like choosing your favorite child, an impossible choice. I CAN say, however, that I love making baby blankets in all shapes and sizes. I mean, everything is better when it's baby-sized, right? While I can't pick my favorite blanket of the many that I have made, those I've made using Lion Brand's Mandala Yarn are all at the top of my list.
Lion Brand Mandala Yarn
Mandala yarn has been around a while now. When it first hit the scene a few years ago, it made waves. Tsunamis, really. You could spend hours perusing the pages of projects on Ravelry using this yarn. I just love how the color gradients of Lion Brand's Mandala Yarn play out, regardless of what type of pattern you choose: rows, rounds, or c2c crochet.
In case you have been living under a rock and haven't ever heard of it, Mandala is a CYC #3 weight DK 100% acrylic yarn. It comes in generous cakes of 594 yds / 540 m, allowing you to make a variety of projects using just one cake!

Thinking about all the beautiful blankets I've made with the Mandala yarn made me wonder if I could make a blog post about it. The answer, of course, is yes!
With all the free time we no doubt have on our hands in the midst of this pandemic, it's time to start using up some of our stash, and why not start a bigger project, like a blanket? I don't know about you, but I have a BUNCH of Mandala yarn in my stash.
The following blankets are all made with Lion Brand's Mandala yarn and all are FREE patterns I found while trolling Pinterest over the last several years. I thought I would share them with you here so that you can see just how beautifully this yarn works up across all types of pattern construction.
Hopscotch Crochet Baby Blanket
If you've ever wanted to try filet crochet, the Hopscotch Crochet Baby Blanket by Little Things Blogged is the perfect blanket to start with! But if you prefer a counted version of this pattern, you can find that here. The cleverly placed spaces work together to make a geometric chevron pattern that runs the length of the blanket. This pattern is written for DK weight yarn, so Mandala was a perfect match. I made this blanket with 2 cakes of the Genie colorway.
Cloudberry Blanket
The Cloudberry Blanket by Swedish designer Mijo Crochet is an intermediate level pattern, but once you get the rhythm of it, you'll breeze right through it. Once again, this pattern is also written for DK weight yarn, so Mandala is a perfect match. And, bonus, she has provided a free PDF version of her beautiful pattern. You can make a perfectly sized baby blanket using a single cake! I made mine using the Pegasus colorway.
Corner to Corner Crochet (c2c)
I've done a couple c2c blankets now with Mandala yarn. I didn't use any pattern. I simply used the tutorial from Make & Do Crew to get me started. I allowed it to continue increasing until I reached my desired width and length. This one used 2 cakes of the Spirit colorway and was made to toddler size: 42″ x 52″.
The 6 Day Kid Blanket
This beautiful 6 Day Kid Blanket, designed by Betty McKnit, wasn't written specifically for Mandala, but man it sure could have been! I used two cakes of the Genie colorway to make the 30″ baby blanket from her pattern chart. This intermediate level pattern is written for CYC #5 Bulky yarn, but there is an awesome chart to allow you to adapt for different yarns and blanket sizes. And don't let the difficulty level frighten you! The pattern has all kinds of tips, is very clearly written, has supplemental videos on YouTube, AND it's own Facebook group you can join and ask questions if you get stuck.
